Bocas del Toro

Our story is about stunning natural beauty, intimate spaces and connecting with nature. Our mission is to offer you an authentic, warm, and extraordinary service and share the magic of our archipelago with you. We take pride in our natural and cultural richness and on being environmentally and socially responsible in everything we do.

How we do it

Our essence

Our staff is the very soul of Nayara. Our outstanding local men and women embody our internal mission of “heartfelt hospitality;” they all feel proud to work here, and to show Panama to our guests through their own eyes.

Gastronomic philosophy

Our kitchens are driven by the mission to offer sustainable and healthy food that uses local and seasonally available products while supporting local farmers and producers. The aim is to get to “zero kilometers” of distance between our produce and our kitchen.

Joseph Archbold

Executive Chef

Executive Chef Joseph Archbold – a Bocas Del Toro native and rising star – is known for bringing culinary excellence to the islands from his experience abroad. Chef Archbold studied with Le Cordon Bleu in Panama at La Universidad Interamericana before furthering his experience in Michelin Star restaurants like Le Grand Vefour with Chef Guy Martin in Paris.

We conducted five different environmental studies to build Nayara Bocas del Toro without harming the native mangroves and coral reefs. That's why we built the hotel on stilts and off-grid, and designed our own clean water and energy infrastructure.

We think local: we want our community to thrive. The majority of our team comes from the neighboring town of La Fortuna de San Carlos. We offer them free transportation, sustainable tourism education, and health services. Some of our additional local initiatives include free early education for our employees’ children, volunteer time, and financial support to Hogarcito de Ninos, a local orphanage, and support for local artists.

100% of our freshwater for drinking, bathing, and cooking is provided by harvested rainwater. We use large custom gutters that funnel rain water through downspouts and into large catchment basins that can store as much as 100,000-gallons. The water is then purified using an advanced ultraviolet purification method.

In 2022, we partnered with the locally-based Caribbean Coral Restoration to install ten environmentally friendly fish habitats or artificial reef structures. We seeded them with genetically resilient coral for faster growth and recovery, and while it’s still early, we have already seen a tremendous amount of marine life return to the bay.

““We stayed in an over the water villa with a private pool. Very private and cozy with an unbelievable view. The food was fantastic each day. The entire team and staff was so friendly and very attentive. We highly recommend Nayara! Next trip we want to stay in the Treehouses!! "

“Nayara is simply paradise. We had to pinch ourselves that we were really there each day. We spent the last leg of our honeymoon here and we wish we had stayed longer. The service is just the best we've ever experienced ”

Rebecca B. , London, UK

“Nayara Bocasd del Toro created a place where you will find peace, tranquility, amazing culinary experiences, snorkeling, Sloth watching, a dolphin bay, deserted islands, and even a phosphorescent bay. I know you are reading this and just shaking your head- no way this place is this perfect, or this breathtaking. IT IS…I promise you; this place is PARADISE.”
